UNIVERSAL INVESTMENT FUND (the "Trust")

 

Change in Investment Manager to the Strategic Asia Fund

 

 

State Street Cayman Trust Company, Ltd. (the "Trustee") wishes to announce that pursuant to an Investment Management Agreement dated 14 October 2009 between the Trustee, Nissay Schroders Asset Management Asia Limited, and Schroder Investment Management (Singapore) Ltd., the latter has been appointed as investment manager (the “Investment Manager”) with responsibility for the overall investment strategy of the Strategic Asia Fund.

 

The Investment Manager was incorporated in Singapore on 29th February, 1992. Its authorised and issued share capital is S$1,000,000 of which S$1,000,000 is fully paid up.  As at 31 August, 2009, the Investment Manager has assets to the value of S$21.545 billion under discretionary management.

 

The directors of the Investment Manager are as follows:

 

Soh Shin Yann Susan

 

Ms. Soh is the Managing Director of Schroders Singapore and also heads the Singapore distribution business. Ms. Soh holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining Schroders Singapore in May 2005, Ms. Soh worked with Deutsche Bank where she headed the Structured Product Sales team. Ms. Soh has also worked with Merrill Lynch Investment Manager (Asia Pacific) where she headed the Institutional and Retail Sales teams in Singapore, and with Arthur Anderson & Co. as an auditor.

 

Lilian Tham

 

Ms. Tham is the Chief Operating Officer for Singapore and Head of Operations and IT for the Asia Pacific region. Ms. Tham has a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. Before joining Schroder International Merchant Bankers Limited in 1994, Ms. Tham worked as a Management Consultant with Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers) focusing on IT consultancy in the financial and manufacturing industries.

 

Siew Ping Gwee

 

Ms. Gwee is the Regional Head of Compliance & Risk for the Asian Pacific region and is based in Singapore. She has a Bachelor of Accountancy from the National University of Singapore, an MBA (with Distinction) from Manchester Business School and is qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in Singapore. She joined Schroder International Merchant Bankers Limited as a Compliance Manager for South East Asia in January 1997, transferring to Schroder Investment Management Singapore Ltd. to become Head of Compliance in October 1999. She has been responsible for the Compliance function across Asia ex Japan since 2004; and Asia Pacific since April 2006. Before joining Schroders, she worked with Ernst & Young Singapore, JP Morgan Singapore and Swiss Bank Corporation Singapore.

 

 

 

 

 

Tan Jui Tong

 

Tan Jui Tong is the Head of Finance in Singapore. He holds an MBA (Banking and Finance) and a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from Nanyang Technological University. He joined Schroders in 2000 as Financial Controller and became Director in 2004. In October 2006, he became Director of the local board having been a member of the local Executive Committee. Before joining Schroders, he worked with an international accounting firm before moving to IBM Singapore and then to Morgan Grenfell. In July 1996, he became Deputy Head of Accounting Department and Head of Systems and Methods for RHB Bank and subsequently joined HSBC Asset Management as Finance and Compliance Manager in April 1998. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and Member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.

 

The Investment Manager has appointed Nissay Schroders Asset Management Asia Limited to act as the sub-investment manager (the "Sub-Investment Manager") for the Strategic Asia Fund and to have discretion in the selection of portfolio securities.  The Sub-Investment Manager was incorporated in Singapore on 12th December, 2005, has its offices at 65 Chulia Street, #46-00, OCBC Centre, Singapore 049513 and is authorised and regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore for the carrying on of regulated activities in Singapore.  The Sub-Investment Manager is jointly owned by Nippon Life Insurance Company and Schroders Investment Management (Singapore) Limited.

 

As at 31 August, 2009, the Sub-Investment Manager has assets to the value of US$314.58 million under discretionary management.

Yoshikazu Takeda

 

Mr. Takeda was born 25th January 1953 in Kochi Prefecture, and has been Senior Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer with Nippon Life Insurance Company since March 2009. Mr Takeda has a B.A. in Law from Kyoto University. Before becoming Senior Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer, Mr Takeda worked as Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer with Nippon Life Insurance Company and in the New York Representative Office as General Manager for the Americas & Europe, as well as previously holding a number of other positions within the company

 

Kazuhide Toda

 

Mr. Toda was born on 10th June 1963 and has been General Manager of the International Planning & Operations Department since 2009. Mr. Toda has a B.A. in Economics from Sophia University. Mr. Toda joined Nippon Life Insurance Company in 1986 as an Associate with the International Investment Department. Before becoming General Manager of the International Planning & Operations Department, Mr. Toda also worked as General Manager of the Credit & Alternative Investment Department, as well as previously holding a number of other positions within the company.

 

Hiroaki Takeda

 

Mr. Takeda has been Chief Executive Officer with Nissay Schroders Asset Management Asia Limited since March 2009. Mr Takeda previously worked as a Manager at Nippon Life Insurance Company in the Fixed Income and Treasury Department followed by the International Investment Department. Mr. Takeda then worked as a Manager with Nissay Asset Management Corporation in International Equity Investment Office before becoming Chief Executive Officer.

 

 

 

 

Ide Kentaro

 

Mr. Kentaro has been Chief Representative in the Singapore office of Nippon Life Insurance Company since March 2009. Before becoming Chief Representative in the Singapore office, Mr. Kentaro held a number of positions including Deputy General Manager in the Corporate Planning Department, Deputy General Manager in the Metropolitan Finance Department, Sales Manager with the Sendai Branch and as Manager in the International Planning & Operation Department at Nippon Life Insurance Company.
